Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Dramatic Results In A Single Treatment

The #1 Breakthrough In Skin Resurfacing!

Fractional CO2 Laser Skin ResurfacingAcclaimed as the anti-aging breakthrough of the decade by respected dermatologists and aesthetic doctors* the world over, the Fractional CO2 Laser combines the effectiveness of traditional CO2 lasers with a modern application technique to deliver powerful results without the harsh side-effects common with traditional laser procedures.

CO2 lasers have been used in cosmetic surgery for decades. Fractional CO2 Laser resurfacing, the latest generation of FDA-approved CO2 lasers, corrects many cosmetic and dermatological skin conditions through a single procedure.

It carries less risks because it treats portions of your skin leaving small regions of untreated skin between treated regions. Thus, it is able to repair aging, scarred, discolored, and sun-damaged skin without lengthy downtime.

Fractional resurfacing offers many benefits. It employs the gold standard CO2 laser for skin resurfacing and corrects the effects of sun damage, acne scarring, facial skin aging, skin discoloration and brown spots.

It stimulates collagen growth thus resulting in healthier, firmer, smoother and younger-looking skin. It can reduce the size of large skin pores, provide skin tightening, remove fine lines and even out your skin tone and color.

Am I A Candidate For Fractional CO2 Laser

You may be an ideal fractional CO2 laser candidate if you have superficial wrinkles or fine lines around your mouth, eyes, or on your forehead, or if you have shallow scars from acne. This technique is however unsuitable for you if you have stretch marks or active acne.

Treatment Uses For Fractional CO2 Laser

Fractional resurfacing is an excellent option for correcting a broad range of skin complications, including:

  • Acne scars
  • Aging skin
  • Birthmarks
  • Enlarged oil glands
  • Fine lines or superficial wrinkles around the eyes, mouth or on the forehead
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Liver spots
  • Warts
  • Discolored complexion
  • Skin laxity and texture
  • Brown spots

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Whereas the actual procedure itself will take about 20 minutes, expect to spend about one and a half-hours in the treatment room because prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic cream will be applied to your face and left in place for one hour to take full effect. Once the procedure is complete, you’ll be required to stay for twenty more minutes to allow your skin to be soothed with a healing ointment.

Preparing For Laser Resurfacing

If you have complications such as previous burns or radiation exposure, you may require a professional evaluation to establish whether or not you are an appropriate candidate for this procedure. Since this procedure can potentially trigger breakouts in susceptible patients, be sure to notify your doctor if you are prone to fever blisters or cold sores—you may need antiviral medication to begin the day before.

If you decide to proceed with fractional C02 laser resurfacing, your doctor will require you to discontinue taking any supplements or medications that can affect blood clotting, such as Advil, ibuprofen, Aleve, aspirin, vitamin E or omega 3 fish oil, for at least a week prior to your surgery.

You may also be required to stop waxing and using abrasive scrubs.

If you are a smoking patient, you will be required to temporarily quit smoking 14 days before and after the procedure because smoking has been shown to prolong the healing process.

How Do Fractional Lasers work?

Fractional lasers work by creating narrow, deep columns that extend through the epidermis into the dermis through an array of tiny little beams of light. Over the coming days, your body’s natural healing process will repair those tiny light beams by pushing out the old damaged skin tissue and replacing it with new, healthy skin tissue thus improving the skin complication being treated.

What Happens After Laser Resurfacing?

Since fractional resurfacing is usually performed on an out-patient basis, expect to go home immediately after treatment. After laser resurfacing treatment, clean the treated regions 2-5 times a day with a dilute vinegar solution or cool tap water and subsequently apply an ointment such as Vaseline. Caring for your wound helps prevent scab formation. Generally, the treated regions heal in 5 to 10 days, depending on the nature of the condition that was treated.

Upon the sites healing, wear an oil-free makeup to camouflage the pink to red color that’s often seen after laser skin resurfacing. Expect the redness in the laser-treated areas to fade after two weeks, or to completely disappear after a month. The redness generally persists longer in patients with fair skin.

If you have a darker skin tone, you risk healing with darker pigmentation. However, you can minimize this by using a bleaching agent before and after laser skin resurfacing procedure is performed.

What Are The Expected Results?

Expect a firmer, healthier, smoother, younger, and tighter looking skin after your fractional CO2 laser procedure. If you have used this procedure to correct wrinkles, acne or brown spots, expect the gradual removal of these complications after a series of treatments. Treatment results are often long term and with skin care regimen and sun protection, can last for many years.

How Many Treatments Will You Need?

You may observe satisfying results within 2-3 weeks after a single treatment. However, you will need two to three follow-up treatments to realize maximum benefits.

Side-Effects Associated with Fractional Resurfacing

Common but minor side-effects that you may experience include swelling, redness, and slight crusting which usually subside after two days. You may also notice a light pink appearance forming on your skin, but as earlier mentioned, this can be camouflaged by wearing a make-up. You may also experience blotchiness that resolves over time. Occasional infections may also occur, and if not redressed promptly, could result in scarring.

How Much Does fractional laser treatment cost?

Generally, the treatment cost will vary depending on where you live, the office you visit, as well as the size of the region being treated. Full face treatments should be anywhere between $1,500 and $3,500. Consult Dr. Earl to get a specific quote.

Up to 2 areas can be treated on a single visit. For instance, neck and chest or face chest would have different prices.

Fractional CO2 laser can be very effective on your skin, leaving it with a healthier, firmer, youthful look and less fine lines and superficial wrinkles. It is the best option for anyone looking for a safe skin rejuvenating treatment. Consult with Dr. Earl before having this treatment done to be sure that you are an ideal candidate.
